  2. Jordan proposed God is the manifestation of the King of King's. The best set of acted out ideas throughout the history of a culture.

Sam responded – Buddhism does not have the same pattern. It is therefore not Universal.

    My answer:

Buddhism is different, for the following reason:

    1. Buddhism deals with Consciousness.

    2. Buddhism is Metaphysical.

    3. Buddhism starts in the infinite. Rather than the corporeal finite realm of existence. (Thus Good and Evil are created in ignorance or a lack of omniscience).

    4. Buddhism is similar to faith. Insomuch as it can be individualistic. Religion tends to be a collective endeavor.

    5. Buddhism does not define the self insomuch as is a reflection of the whole.

My main point. Buddhism exists as a way of being before the act of consciousness.

  4. The art analogy: the value is in it's provenance or the history and the effect the original has had on beholders.

  5. Sam Harris is full of shit. They should have invited Slavoj Zizek instead. Real intellectuals, not agenda based arguments that were fabricated in order to win instead of seeking the truth.

  10. I see Sam and Jordan speaking/using mostly similar language until they're respective words/toolkit for "how to decide how to exist/act". To Sam's point (and I admire Jordan) they need agreement on how to update "the Sacred." …just thinking out loud.

  22. @33:30 the answer is "interpret". We interpret facts based on our knowledge and circumstance, and probably multiple other values as well.

    Thank you for uploading this.

  23. I have a lot of respect for Jordan, but listening to him talk about religion is like listening to Deepak Chopra.

  24. when these two talk I always get the feeling that Harris is tailoring his rationalizations and chains of logic to reach a foregone conclusion. One of the things I like most about Peterson is that he keeps his mind open to things that may even be beyond his understanding. I've often noticed a difference between nuanced believers and even the smartest atheists: atheists have already decided, most believers are still searching. I think this gives a clue about the relationship between atheism and egotism. Belief is basically a state of humility.

  26. I hope something actually happens this time. The 1st two went nowhere just like the podcasts. besides Ken Wilber already figured this out 23 years ago, as Sam Harris very well knows! Read the book Sex , Ecology and Spirituality.

  30. A Jungian psychologist and a neuroscientist talking about a domain they know little about – philosophy. The hubris of having this discussion without ever mentioning Kant, Plato, Aristotle, Buddha, Confucius, Hume, Singer, Rawls, Socrates, Epicurus, Mill, Bentham, Peirce, James, Dewey, etc… Hume already differentiated Facts and Values!

  31. So we went from cable news celebs that know next to nothing about philosophy to YouTube stars that know next to nothing about philosophy? Wow… such progress.

  32. They are both committing the same error, reducing truth to systems only. They are just arguing about which system is better at making the error!

  35. Whoa, they finally mentioned a philosopher in a debate about truth!

  36. Ahhhhh, now we have it, Harris is pissed that Peterson has slowed his project of destroying faith based beliefs. Will Peterson succeed in reversing it?

  37. What if I told you both Sam and Jordan are right.
